These beautiful traditional Traditional Karuwa Vessels were almost certainly brought back to the UK by the previous owner’s grandparents after they lived in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) in the 1920s. She remembers seeing them in her grandmother’s house when she was a child in the early 1950s. After her grandmother passed away in 1978, they were stored in her mother’s loft and then moved to hers in 2000.
Each karuwa stands 9 inches tall and weighs over half a kilo. The intricate patterns feature swirling fronds, birds, and possibly dancing deities. I have left them as they are to preserve their antique charm.
These intricately engraved Karuwa vases from Sri Lanka are over 100 years old and steeped in rich history. Used to carry water, these traditional vases are not only functional but also serve as beautiful decorative pieces. Add a touch of culture and elegance to your space with these unique vases.
